My Father-in-law

Pops-1
Originally uploaded by Elessar
My father-in-law, Ed Koschmann, during our recent visit at Christmas. Pops is 89 and soon to be 90. I've known him going on 24 years now and he's been a great person to know: intelligent, passionate, and loving. He loves a good conversation and debate. A few years ago, he spent 3 hours discussing the minimum qualifications you need to get into heaven with two of my friends. Pops was raised Missouri Synod Lutheran and is very devoted to that denomination. He loved the 3 hour debate and was looking to continue the conversation even when we had given up.

This is such a brilliant play and the set and lighting were so well done. In this scene, we are traveling back in time to see the passion of one of the characters about baseball. The tight lighting just made the scene even better.

I found the stories within the stories powerful and well acted for a group of High School students. As usual, the set design and lighting was excellent.

Dublin Scioto Marching Band half-time show

I love taking photos of the high school kids in the Marching Band. From a photography perspective, I love the flow and motion of the band. I also enjoy the color and the contrast. For the past two years, the band has used black outfits for the half-time show instead of the military uniforms they normally wear. I also love to be around these kids who have so much energy and joy. These are the memories they will take with them the rest of their lives.

Internal Training Team

Internal Training Team
I've wanted to do a team photograph, however, I didn't want the run-of-the-mill, group shot. Instead, I decided to get individual photos of each of us showing our hobbies, and then I composited the images together. This is a work in progress, as I need to get images of two more of the people on the team and I need to get us a decent background.

Introducing the Sterling Commerce Internal Training Team: (L-R) Renee Seal, Chris Eff, Andee Janssen, Mike King, Tom Burns, Mona Morrison, Dennis Murphy. Missing: Karen Scott (I'll be adding her soon)

Strobist Info: Individuals shot using an SB800 @ 1/2 power into a silver umbrella camera left. Chis's photo was an SB800 snooted and a Vivtar 283 @ 1/16 power lying on the keyboard.

Urinetown Cast & Crew

Urinetown Cast & Crew

Another High School Theatre season draws to a close. I've really enjoyed working with the High School Theatre troupe over the past few years. They are such a fun bunch of kids to work with. High energy and outgoing. I've also really enjoyed honing my photography and lighting skills taking photos of their shows. This photo is from the show Urinetown the Musical. The kids did a marvelous job and seemed like they really enjoyed the show. The set was really well designed and well light. For this photo, I used my two electronic flashes to provide side lighting to the scene.

The Prodigals

The Prodigals are an Irish rock band that came to Columbus for the 2007 Dublin Irish Festival. My wife won seats in the CD101 Big Room to hear them live as they broadcast a couple of songs on the air. There were only about 20 people in the room listening to them and they really rocked.

This was one of the shots I took while we were in the room. (using only existing light). We got to chat with the band after and then watched them that evening at the festival. It was a blast.
